Welcome to the McGill FamSIG!

Welcome to the McGill FamSIG!

The Family Medicine Student Interest Group (FamSIG) is run by McGill medical students with a special interest in Family Medicine. This year’s FamSIG presidents, Camille Brisson-Tessier (Med-2) and Patrick Moynihan (Med-3), will be organizing interesting and diverse activities for you, with the goal of exploring and discovering the broad field of Family Medicine!

Most of the activities and talks have yet to be planned. Here are the events to look for during the upcoming year.

Beer and Pizza with Residents
A great opportunity to talk to Family Medicine Residents, learn about their practices and ask them all your questions while enjoying free food!

Family Medicine Symposium on September 21st 2013
This year’s symposium will be hosted by the Faculty of Medicine of Université Laval, in Quebec City.

Evening conferences
Come hear passionate family doctors speak about their diverse practices and learn more about fields such as emergency, sports medicine, psychiatry, maternal and fetal medicine, palliative care and different environments in which family doctors can practice, like wards, ER, clinics, home visits, and more. As usual, a delicious dinner will be served!

Post-match talk
Usually scheduled in March, the post-match talk is the perfect opportunity to lean more about the CaRMS process from students who just finished their application and matched to Family Medicine across the world. You will receive precious tips and advices, answers to your questions as well as valuable insights from your predecessors so that you are better prepared for your own residency application. Food will be provided.

Skill’s day
Usually occurring in April, Skill’s day offers multiple hands-on workshops that allow you to learn and practice several skills used frequently by primary care physicians! Who knows, maybe one day, you will impress one of your supervisors in a clerkship rotation with the technical skills you’ll have learned that day!

Speed-dining with docs
Usually occurring in May, you will have the opportunity to enjoy a delicious 5 course meal while talking with 5 inspiring family doctors and residents who will be rotating from tables to tables after each course.

Rural trip
An all-included 1-2 day(s) trip outside of Montreal to promote the practice of Family Medicine in a rural setting.
