This year, Montreal was lucky to host FMF 2011 (the Family Medicine Forum). This event took place November 3rd-5th at the Palais des Congrès. Being so close to McGill, and especially being offered free to students, many students were able to attend the event. Highlights included many presentations of the most current information on very clinically-relevant topics. Several lunches and evening events allowed students to interact with their colleagues from all over the country as well as with family physicians and residents. Overall it was a stimulating experience. We are already excited about next year’s FMF which will be held in Toronto! We encourage you to participate as well. Speak to your faculty, who will surely support you in getting to FMF!

As winter approaches, FaMSIG’s activities are certainly not cooling off! Several physicians are eager to share their passion for family medicine with you. Here’s a sample of their interests: research, rural family med, geriatrics, obstetrics, and refugee health. McGill students, stay tuned, details will be available shortly. For Med 2s stressed about clerkship sequence choices, 3rd and 4th years will present the different options for the mandatory rural family medicine rotation. Finally, if you’re looking for something exciting to do next summer, you can come learn about the paid pre-clinical summer internships SARROS offers.
